This vlog is the first installment in a multi‑part series, because there’s simply no way to fit everything we learned into one video. The past few weeks have been intense, emotional, and eye‑opening. In this first six‑minute segment, I’m sharing the biggest takeaways from the team — what they’re seeing, what concerns them most, and why Raegan’s case is far from straightforward.
The evaluation brought together specialists from hepatology, surgery, hematology, infectious disease, nutrition, psychology, and more. Each one looked at Raegan through a different lens, but together they painted a clearer picture of what makes her situation uniquely complex.
What We Learned About Raegan’s Liver Health
One of the hardest parts of this evaluation was learning how the typical risks of liver transplantation become amplified in Raegan’s case. The team outlined several complications they have to consider more carefully because of her medical history and the way her body responds to stress and illness. These aren’t risks any parent wants to hear, but understanding them helps us.
Why Sickle Cell Anemia Complicates Everything
This was the part that hit the deepest. Sickle cell anemia changes the entire landscape of transplant medicine. The team explained how sickling can affect blood flow to the new liver, how it increases the risk of clotting or organ injury, and how the stress of surgery itself can trigger a crisis. It’s not impossible — but it is more complicated and more delicate.
Hearing all of this didn’t break us. It grounded us. It reminded us that Raegan’s journey has never been simple, but she has always met every challenge with quiet strength and a spirit that refuses to dim.
What’s Next
This vlog is just the beginning. There’s so much more to unpack — the testing, the conversations with specialists, the emotional weight of the “what ifs,” and the decisions we’ll have to make as a family. I’ll be sharing each part of this journey in this series so our community can walk with us, stay informed, and continue lifting Raegan in love and prayer.
Thank you for being here, for watching, and for supporting us through every step of this process. Your presence means more than you know.
