Liver Transplant Update — Part 2

The Decision We Didn’t Expect

In this second part of our liver transplant update, I’m sharing something that was incredibly difficult to hear and even harder to process. During Raegan’s evaluation, we received a formal letter from the transplant team explaining their decision not to place her on the liver transplant list.

In this vlog, you’ll hear me read that letter out loud.

Because of Raegan’s medical complexities — especially the combination of her liver disease and sickle cell anemia — the team believes a transplant would not improve her quality of life. Instead, they fear it could drastically shorten it. Seeing those words written out, in black and white, was heartbreaking. It’s one thing to know her case is complicated; it’s another to be told that the very thing you hoped might save her could instead cause more harm.

This part of the vlog is raw and honest. It’s heavy. But it’s also part of our truth, and sharing it honors the journey we’ve invited our community into.

There will be a Part 3, where I’ll talk about the questions that naturally follow:

What do we do now?

Where do we go from here?

What becomes the new focus for Raegan’s care?

Thank you for holding space for us as we navigate this chapter.
